ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — As Thanksgiving approaches, the Albany community rallied to ensure military families enjoy a festive holiday. Despite rainy weather, Price Chopper/Market 32 and the Tully Rinckey law firm distributed turkeys to active duty and retired military personnel.
Since its inception in 2009, the “Turkeys for Veterans” initiative has provided Thanksgiving turkeys to military families in the Capital Region and beyond. This year, 200 turkeys, weighing approximately 2,800 pounds, were distributed. Over the years, the program has given out more than 50,000 pounds of turkey to military personnel.
Greg Rinckey, a founding partner of Tully Rinckey, said, “This is our 16th annual. People show up early and we’ll give out over 200 turkeys to veterans, active duty, retirees—as you can see they line up at 10 o’clock. Traffic control gets out of control and that’s why we’re using the Raymour & Flanigan parking lot this year.”
The event, scheduled to run until 2 p.m. Thursday, saw turkeys in high demand, with supplies running out just before 1 p.m. In Syracuse, around 2,000 pounds of turkeys were distributed the previous day. Many Tully Rinckey employees are veterans, fueling their passion for the cause.
