ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Saint Patrick’s Day weekend has come to a close, which means we’re seeing results of increased DWI patrols.
Troopers in the Rochester region made 10 DWI arrests throughout the weekend, which they say is pretty average. State police in Buffalo and Syracuse made a similar amount of arrests.
While a dozen or so offenses might seem relatively low, experts say a DWI conviction is nothing to take lightly.
“A DWI could could end up with probation or jail time, those are a little more extreme it normally doesn’t happen that way. A first offense though you are looking at fines around $1,000,” said Peter Pullano, Managing Partner, Tully Rinckey. “When you look at that you realize the 20 bucks for an Uber wouldn’t have been a bad decision to make.”
Those charged with DWI also risk having their license suspended for up to a year.
