NEW YORK, NY (WRGB) — The decision to overturn President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing for his hush money trial has been delayed until next week.
New York Judge Juan Merchan is giving Manhattan prosecutors and Trump’s attorneys more time to figure out how to proceed with the case following Trump’s presidential election last week.
An attorney at Tully Rinckey say it’s not surprising there’s been another delay since this is unprecedented territory.
However, experts say judges don’t tend to like to dismiss cases, especially ones that have been in front of a jury.
“So it’s really like it’s essentially a case of first impression because it’s never happened before. So I think no matter if the judge rules against the president-elect, it’s going to be appealed and we’re going to get some sort of a decision,” said Matt Winchell, attorney at Tully Rinckey. “If not out of the New York State Court of Appeals, then it could very well work its way back up to the Supreme Court. but time will tell.”
