CAPITAL REGION, NY (WRGB) — As we approach one week until the 2024 presidential election, right now Scotia police are continuing to investigate this video, which appears to show Assembly Republican candidate Joe Mastroianni stealing his opponent’s mailer, and replacing it with his own.
The video released to the media by the Schenectady democratic party on Wednesday, of which Mastroianni chose to aim his response to reporters on Wednesday night, refusing to answer questions about the video, which is now receiving national attention. A lawyer from Tully Rinckey, unaffiliated with the case, tells CBS6, if its only one instance, it might not be something prosecutors want to aggressively pursue with charges, but if they find it happened multiple cases, a felony charge could be in play. We asked what the process is like now.
“Law enforcement has to do their due diligence. They have to do the investigation. You know, obviously it’s on video. It’s, it seems like it’s pretty cut and clear, but, you know, they have to get in touch with, you know, the Assistant US attorneys, or the district attorneys, wherever it’s going to be brought, and see, like, look, it’s something you want to pursue.”
