WASHINGTON, D.C. — Millions of people across the United States are federal workers. Some of them may see a pay decrease if a new bill in Congress is signed into law.
The Federal Employee Return to Work Act is being described as a way to bring remote federal employees back into the office. The bill would stop bonuses for some federal employees who work from home and stop pay raises for those telework employees who live and work in an area with a high cost of living.
“Physically showing up to work is important,” says Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy.
Senator Cassidy introduced the bill in the Senate, the Republican has been calling for federal employees to return to the office since pandemic-era restrictions have been lifted.
