ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — CBS6 has continuing coverage of a lawsuit filed by the former athletics director for girls’ programs at the Albany Academies, who says she was wrongfully fired and targeted by the school because of her stance on equal rights.
Dr. Angela Marathakis says she was fired because of her gender and for being an openly gay woman.
The suit alleges she fought to promote and encourage equality in girls sports and helped students who faced harassment for their sexuality.
It’s also alleged she questioned the school’s apparent lack of equal funding for girls’ programs. The lawsuit also accuses former co-workers of harassment, with male colleagues and even an administrator allegedly yelling at employees and making sexual comments or jokes.
A spokesperson for the school previously told CBS6 in a statement that “We have always been committed to creating a fair and equitable work environment for all our employees but, since it is our longstanding policy to keep all personnel-related matters confidential, we will not comment on this matter.”
