What is the MCCR?

The MCCR is a state agency dedicated to enforcing Maryland's anti-discrimination laws in employment, housing, public accommodations, and state contracts. It aims to eliminate discrimination and promote equality.

When to Contact MCCR:

Contact MCCR if you are:

• experiencing workplace discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or genetic information;
• facing retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint or participating in an investigation; or.
• suffering harassment that alters the conditions of employment and create an abusive atmosphere.

Steps to file a complaint

1. Initiate the complaint:
   • Contact MCCR by phone, online, or in person to initiate the complaint process.
   • Provide details about the discriminatory act, including dates, witnesses, and relevant documentation.

2. Intake Interview
   • An MCCR intake officer will conduct an interview to gather more information and determine if the case falls within MCCR's jurisdiction.
   • The intake officer will explain your rights and the next steps in the process.

3. Filing the complaint
   • If the case is accepted, the officer will help you complete a formal complaint form.
   • The complaint will be filed, and a copy will be sent to your employer for their response.

4. Investigation
   • MCCR will conduct a thorough investigation, including interviews, document reviews, and site visits if necessary.
   • Both parties may be asked to provide additional information.

5. Resolution
   • If evidence supports your claim, MCCR will attempt to mediate a settlement between you and your employer.
   • If mediation fails, MCCR may take legal action or refer the case to the Office of Administrative Hearings for a formal hearing.
