Responsibilities
The Business Development Associate is responsible for overseeing and accelerating new business growth for the firm by managing developing and implementing business development initiatives for our core practice areas, both nationally and in New York State.
In addition to firm-wide business development initiatives, this position will work with our practice area chairs and individual attorneys on developing business development plans that will emphasize:
· Identifying current influencers and referral sources
· Developing new referral sources (both inbound and outbound referrals)
· Cross-selling opportunities within existing practice areas
· Identifying local market opportunities for new business development
This position will also identify and oversee responses to legal services RFPs issued by governmental agencies and authorities, and not-for-profit organizations, for the firm’s applicable practice areas, and oversee large scale business development efforts to include procurement of business and/or government clients that will result in profitable, long-term relationships for the firm.
The Business Development Associate will report directly to the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer and will work closely with the firm’s business development committee and committee chair.
· Identify, administer and oversee successful, strategic, revenue generating business development efforts that build upon existing client relationships and target new opportunities;
· Work with the firm’s practice area chairs and individual attorneys to develop specific business development plans and activities;
o Develop and implement tools and techniques to support and enhance attorneys’ client relationship management and related business development efforts.
o Coach and support attorneys on business development strategies and presentation techniques as needed.
· Identify, procure, oversee responses to legal services Request for Proposals (RFP’s) for applicable practice areas;
· Research and develop market intelligence initiatives to include identifying key clients, potential laterals, new markets and growth opportunities;
· Collaborate, communicate and support managing partners and other firm departments in the implementation of business development goals;
· Assist and confer with the marketing department to coordinate and mutually support business development initiatives;
· Track all new business development activity and revenue to measure against established KPIs;
· Oversee client feedback and management of the firm’s online reputation management (ORM);
· Identify external speaking engagements, events and conferences, and webinars; work with the marketing department to execute;
· As needed, work with the marketing team to ensure all firm collateral and marketing material including newsletters, brochures, attorney biographies, advertisements and the website are consistent in quality and content;
· Other projects and duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; MBA strongly preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in a business development, sales or marketing role with a proven track record of success identifying and procuring new business revenue results.
- Experience in a professional services or business-to-business environment. Legal industry experience preferred but not required.
