Marie Stephens is an associate attorney in Tully Rinckey’s Albany, NY, office, where she focuses her practice on federal employment law.
Prior to joining Tully Rinckey, Marie worked as a senior law clerk with the Vermont Judiciary Trial Court for four years. As a senior law clerk, Marie researched and analyzed complicated legal issues across a range of practice areas, as well as drafted legal opinions, orders, and memoranda for nearly 20 different judges. Alongside daily court activities, Marie prepared and presented research projects on novel legal questions to law clerks across the state, including constitutional issues related to Title VII and Title IX.
Marie earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Methodist University and her Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. While in law school, Marie interned for several non-profit organizations, including GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), the ACLU of Missouri, and Lawyers for Human Rights in Durban, South Africa.
Marie also held several leadership positions during law school, including serving as the Secretary of OUTLaw, where she worked to address the legal and political issues facing the LGBTQ community, as well as provide resources for maintaining a safe and supportive environment at the law school and within the community. In addition to her internship in South Africa, where she assisted asylum seekers and refugees who had fled from the insecurity of their countries, Marie’s international experience includes study abroad programs in Granada, Spain, and Utrecht, the Netherlands.
