Thomas J. Carr, Esq. is Counsel to the full service law firm
of Tully Rinckey PLLC and concentrates his practice
in the area of Criminal Defense.
Tom’s affiliation enables the firm to offer a full range of
criminal litigation and courtroom services including
misdemeanor and felony cases from pre-arraignment through
trial. His proven litigation techniques and prosecutorial
outlook are valuable in forming a viable defense strategy. Tom is often called upon by local and national news
organizations to comment on prominent criminal cases.
Born in Galway, Ireland , Tom attended the National
University of Ireland where he received his BA in Economics
and Law. He was employed with the Department of Foreign
Affairs in Dublin and then with the Department of Defense,
Operations and Civilian Employee Bureaus in Galway. Tom
received his law degree from the National University of
Ireland and was awarded the Sweet and Maxwell Law prize for
first place in the study of law.
After graduating from Law School , Tom moved to New York and
worked in the Office of the District Attorney in Brooklyn ,
prosecuting serious crimes including narcotics and gang
violence. Thereafter, he entered private practice focusing
on Criminal and Civil Litigation, including Family Court,
Surrogates Court , Criminal Court, Housing Court , Civil
Court and Supreme Court cases. In 2004, Tom became a DWI
prosecutor for Delaware County . Most recently, as Bureau
Chief in the Special Victims Unit in Rensselaer County, Tom
regularly handled felony and misdemeanor sex crimes,
domestic violence, crimes against children and crimes
against the elderly. In addition to his work at the offices
of the District Attorney, Tom joined the New York State
Assembly Minority staff as an associate counsel and later
became Deputy Legislative Director.
Tom lives in Rensselaer County with his dog Naji. He is an active member in the NRA, NYSRPA and
served on the board of directors of the Humane Society of
Central Delaware County.
