Legal Ramifications Surround Spitzer Prostitution Ring Allegations

What: As reports emerge of Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s involvement in a high-class prostitution ring and calls for his resignation are heard throughout the New York political community, the possible repercussions of the allegations beyond resignation should be addressed.

In addition to turning over his responsibilities to Lt. Gov. David Patterson and the possible end of his political career, Spitzer could face some serious criminal charges. In New York, the offense of patronizing a prostitute is a class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 3 months in jail or one-year probation or by a maximum fine of $300.
